Happy New Year!

***I apologize ahead of time because this blog is not looking perfect. For some reason it has some parts highlight in white and I can't seem to remove it. I've done the blog several times and it comes out the same. The important thing is the message.

Reflecting on this past year, you may experience discouragement over plans that never came to pass or dreams that never materialized. Looking ahead to the New Year,
Did 2014 leave you like this?
you may find it difficult to have motivation to persevere for the breakthroughs for which you've waited so long. Wouldn't it be easier to just settle for second-best?
God wants you to fly and not struggle as you enter into year 2015!
I read a story about a man who found an eagle’s egg and put it into the nest of a prairie chicken. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them.
All his life the eagle, thinking he was a prairie chicken, did whatever the other chickens did. He scratched in the dirt for seeds and insects to eat. He clucked and crackled. And he flew in a brief thrashing of wings and flurry of feathers no more than a few feet off the ground. After all, that’s how prairie chickens were supposed to fly. Years passed. The eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent bird far above him in the cloudless sky. Hanging with graceful majesty on the powerful wind currents, it soared with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings. ‘What a beautiful
Bird!’ said the eagle to his neighbor. ‘What is it?’ ‘That’s an eagle, the chief of the birds,’ the neighbor clucked ‘but don’t give it a second thought. You could never be like him.’
So the eagle never gave it another thought. And it died thinking it was a prairie chicken. Don’t just observe it from far and wish and don’t let anyone tell you not to even think or wish about it because you will never be able to do it. Maybe you were in the wrong place and was there for part of 2014 or all of 2014; now today it’s time to make that decision to soar, to change direction, to believe in God and to soar like the eagle.
One of my favorite bible verses is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you plans for a hope and a future.” Do not be like the eagle. You might have had setbacks, illness, and adversity, betrayals, many financial problems and unexpected issues/drama in their lives this year 2014. However, remember what my favorite bible verse says. Remember the plans God has for you.
What are you going to do? Are you going to let what happened in 2014 rule or guide what you do in 2015? Are you going to stay negative and always have the tendency to expect bad outcomes that have settle in your mind or are you going to choose to persist in faith in God? Shake it off and take hold of it: Philippians 3:13 “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
You might say to yourself right now as you read this blog, but I made so many mistakes and had so many failures (I say this because as I was writing I had these thoughts myself), it’s time to think about/take inventory of 2014 and reset ourselves! We must learn from our mistakes. Think about the cost that our impulse actions will make not only on you but on others. If you need to, talk to someone and ask for advice before making decisions that will impact others or your life and make sure it will be a positive impact and not a negative one. If you learn from your mistakes you will not keep repeating them.
I encourage you to take a positive look at the possibilities of the future and speak of those things that are nonexistent as though they do exist. “As it is written: “I have made you father of many nations…..” Romans 4:17(a). God is speaking about Abraham. God had told Abraham that he was going to be father of many nations, but Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old. Sarah was never able to have children. Sarah was past the child bearing age. However, God spoke a Word to Abraham. Abraham didn't see the future or the possibilities of that future. He could have doubted; Sarah laughed. However, he held on to the possibilities of that future. We need to think and speak about our future in a positive way not according to what you have seen in the past or are seeing right now, but according to what God has placed in your heart and positive goals you have set always remembering that you need to put Christ first and ask for His direction in all you do. He has a great future for you. Believe it and confess it!
As we prepare for a New Year, a new journey, another opportunity to get closer to God, another opportunity to reach goals, a purpose to hold on to and persevere on the road to success, remember that also there will come the ups and downs. Please remember that you will find times where there will be hindrances (things in your way that will want to stop your progress). There will be times that the negative thoughts will want to invade your mind. There will be times that negative talk or advice will come from friends and family. But don't give up! Don’t give in! Stay strong! “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will make a new thing. Now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19
God bless! Thank you for reading my blogs and I hope that I have been able to be a blessing to your life! Talk to you next year! I ask you to pray for me that God will continue to help me and give me wisdom, knowledge and understanding and words to share with everyone that this blog reaches. I will also be praying for everyone that this blog might reach.
Enter 2015 like this!

Unto Us A Child Is Born.....Isaiah 9:6

"For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

"Christmas began in the heart of God. It is complete only when it reaches the heart of man."

Christmas is a special time for most people, but especially for followers of Jesus. Christmas is celebrated all across this planet in a variety of ways. Families have traditions that are often passed down from generation to generation. Sometimes the traditions don't even make sense to the younger generation but they practice and celebrate it anyways.

Churches and religions have their traditions as well. Once such tradition still celebrated in many churches/religions is Advent. What does Advent mean? The word "advent" comes from Latin "advnetus" meaning "arrival" or "coming," particularly of something have great importance. The first coming of Jesus Christ was the most significant historical event that has ever occurred. The "arrival" of the promised Messiah has changed the world forever. Old Testament prophecies takes us on a journey of Jesus Christ and the New Testament describes how the maker of heaven and earth came humbly to be born to eventually die for the sins of the world.

There is nothing wrong with tradition but many have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights on the windows, the turkey (or whatever tradition meal you eat) with your family and friends, snow in the yard, and shouts of Merry Christmas? Is this really Christmas?

For many it's a time of sorrow because they do not have the extra money to buy gifts for their children, family and friends. Others are sadden because their loved ones will not be able to make it for one reason or another. Turkey dinners may only be a wish and not a reality for others.

However, Christmas should be a time of great joy. It's a time of God showing His great love for us. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. See Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of Jesus. God sent His son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men and angels all joined in the joy and excitement of knowing about this great event! They knew this was no ordinary baby. The prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star stopped over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child.

Why did He come? Why did God send His Son to this cruel world? John 3:17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him." He sent Him because in Him there is truth, love and hope and through Him we have salvation; otherwise we would die in sin.  He was born so one day He could die for us. He was born to then pay the price for everything we have done and will do wrong. We all sin; we all do things that are sin. We have inherited the sin nature because of Adam and Eve. We are born in sin nature. We need to be removed from the sinful nature and the only way this can be removed is through Jesus Christ. Jesus was born to then die on that cross for ALL of our sins. If you believe that He was born and then died for our sins we need to ask Him to come into our hearts and forgive us. Then we can be clean and made whole.

1 John 1:9 "But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong."

Don't forget the real reason we celebrate Christmas. Don't forget that Christmas is the birth of Jesus but also remember the reason and purpose for His birth. The best gift you can receive today is the gift of salvation. This is the year to ask Jesus into your heart. To start off the New Year full of peace and joy then you will truly have a Merry Christmas.

Many Christians have changed the way they would celebrate Christmas in regards to their worship services. Now they are more relaxed and more involved in the hustle of this world with shopping and family and parties. I remember when I was growing up we would have worship services on Christmas Eve. Those were the best services ever. They had special programs. Now there are very few churches that are even open on Christmas Eve and many don't even do any Christmas programs. I hope that you have not lost the spirit of Christmas and that you can still worship the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Merry Christmas!

The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast... MUST SEE!!

Why Should We Be Thankful?

"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thanksgiving is around the corner and you are probably thinking what do I have to be grateful for. Maybe you are having a really hard time right now. Maybe you've had a hard year so far. Maybe you're feeling kind of blah about your life. Whatever it might be, you're thinking what do I have to be grateful for? Here are some bible verses, stories, and thoughts from God's Word and you will see that there are reasons to say "Thank you God!"

Always Give Thanks!

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

When bad things happen to me, my first reaction is to be upset, not to be joyful. When I'm hurt I don't feel like giving thanks to God. Many times instead what I do say is "God if you really loved me, this wouldn't be happening."

But then I look at all the ways God has blessed me. God gives me great, amazing gifts all the time and I many times forget to say "thank you." The very fact that I can get up every morning with life is something to be thankful for. However, many times we focus more on our problems, on what we don't have (and many times we really don't need we just want it) than on the blessings. Let's focus more on the blessings and be thankful!

What about you?

  1. Think back to a time when something bad happened. What were your prayers like then?
  2. Start a list of the ways God has been good to you. Whenever you think of another reason to be thankful, add it to the list.
  3. Offer God a prayer pure of thanksgiving, with no requests in it.
No Complaints!

Now on His way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border of Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priest." And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was cleaned, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked Him - and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?" Luke 17:11-18.

Now Samaritans were despised/hated by the Jews, yet a Samaritan was the only one that came back to give thanks for the healing.  He was a foreigner.

Sometimes we are not in our comfort zone and we complain, but we shouldn't. Sometimes we don't like where we are at because we feel uncomfortable, like we don't belong, especially when you do mission trips. The housing is different, food, etc and you begin to complain. But just as in the above story the Samaritan who had been healed, who was the foreigner and despised, he could have made excuses why not to give thanks, but he didn't. He went back, the only one that went back, and gave thanks! We too, no matter what the circumstances, we should take the time to say thank you to God.

What about you?

  1. How do you feel when someone forgets to tell you thank you something nice you did? How do you think your parents, grandparents, teachers,  or friends feel if you forget to thank them? How do you think God feels when you forget to thank Him?
  2. Purchase a package of thank you cards and write out short notes of appreciation and gratitude to several people. Send cards until they are all gone - not only during Thanksgiving but year round we should be thankful and we should try to practice is.
  3. Ask God to be a more grateful person.
Thank you for Me!

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalms 139:13-14

Have a great and safe Thanksgiving! Remember, give God a pure prayer of thanks without asking for anything, just thanking Him for everything. Think about everything, even the smallest thing that you might think is insignificant - thank Him.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Prayer - Having prayer in your life gives you five distinctive advantages

Having prayer in your life gives you five distinctive advantages:
  1. Prayer changes your circumstances. Matthew 7:8 "For if everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks the door will be opened." James 4:2 "You desire but you do not have, so you kill. You covet but you do not get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God." The most obvious benefit to prayer is that prayer changes things.Sadly, one of the biggest hindrances to believing that prayer changes circumstances is our short-term memory. Even after we have seen how God has answered our prayers, we tend to forget the next time we are passing through something. One way to combat this is writing your prayer requests and answers. My cell leader, Mayra Cortes, gave me a journal so that I could jot down my prayers, answers, dreams given to me by God, interpretation, etc.
  2. Prayer mends relationships: You can look at prayer as follows:
    1. It's like a healing ointment that you can apply to open wounds of torn and broken relationships. When you pray, pray about this situation; be open to God about it and then let God work in the situation you are praying about. Sometimes we get frustrated and say God is not doing anything but many times it's because we won't let Him. We want things to be done instantly on our time and not in God's timing. Be patient and allow God to work in the situation
    2. Humble - a pride buster. Many people do not like this word. You humble yourself to God when you pray, saying: I need your help because I can't solve this one on my own. This act of humility can spill over and actually make it easier to deal with the other person(s) and be open to a resolution to the problem.
    3. Being humble and praying brings people together when they mutually submit to a higher Authority. So if you and the other person are willing to pray about the situation, this will break down a major barrier to solving the problem.
  3. Prayer helps you physically - I can testify to that! Prayer can make a tangible difference in your physical health. The Bible offers many examples of God's healing of people's physical ailments when people prayed and I often hear of present-day stories of healing. Over the past 20 years, these accounts of being backed up with medical research studies on the effectiveness of prayer and physical healing, suggesting that prayer can and indeed have a positive impact and those being prayed for.
  4. Prayer helps you emotionally. When you think of healing, physical healing may be the first thing that comes to mind. But the Gospels give many examples of Jesus' emotional and spiritual healing of people. Many people
today live with painful memories from the past that can enslave and rule their lives, even in ways that they don't consciously realize. Through prayer, God can free you from the bondage of memories and past sins and provide a release in such a way that they no longer become a dominating force in your life.
  5. Prayer changes you. Perhaps the greatest irony of prayer is that when you truly open to God's answer, you - not the circumstances - are often what changes. Just as I'm discovering that God does engineer circumstances, He also uses circumstances to change me. Although the discovery may be a surprise, it really shouldn't be that unexpected. The God of the Bible makes it clear that He is most interested in how people are being transformed on the inside, because those changes are eternal.

Seven Secrets to Keeping your Joy - by Joyce Meyer

Seven Secrets to Keeping your Joy by Joyce Meyer

1. Be led by the Spirit - Proverbs 6:9 "A man's mind plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure."

The Holy Spirit will lead us to change things on purpose just to make us pay attention to Him. God may lead you to simply take a different route home from work. He may want to show you a new tree or something beautiful on your way home. Don't just keep doing things the same if you're no longer joyful.

2. Simplify your life. Don't try to do to much! Satan works hard to complicate your life so he can steal your joy. Take an hour and write down everything you are doing or want to do. Then look at what events are not bearing any fruit and mark off your list.

3. Pray for boldness - John 16:24 "Ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy  (gladness/delight) may be full and complete."

Hebrews 4:6 "Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and we may find grace to help us in time of need." (In the Amplified version it says regarding throne of grace - the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners. Receiver mercy for our failures, we do fail. Help in time of need - appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it)

James 4:2-3 "You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."

Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened up to you."

We do not have because we do not ask. Be bold and confident in God when you pray, don't be double-minded when you ask for your blessing.

4. Be quick to forgive - Joy is restored to your life when you learn to forgive and forget and these two virtues go together.

Psalm 103:12 "as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us."

5. Obey God - Psalm 37:4 "Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."

6. Be yourself

7. Let God invade every area of your life!

Be blessed!

Self-Esteem

What causes low self-esteem? It's the belief you have about yourself as facts when they are actually just opinions. These are based on your life experiences and if you've only have had negative experiences then you will have negative thoughts and believe them. These experiences (not always) occur early in life (when a child or teenager). What you seen or heard from your parents, neighborhood, school - these influence how you think and see yourself.

Examples of early experiences that affect your life:

  • Constant punishment, neglect or abuse
  • feeling like you can't meet the standards of your parents or that you don't make them proud
  • feeling like a failure because you don't meet your peers standards
  • People taking out the stress on you
  • Belonging to a family in which other people are prejudice
  • You are not hugged or told "I love you." No one takes notice of your accomplishments, or gives you affection
  • Being the (what some people call) the black sheep of the family or the odd one at home and at school

  • Abusive relationship - verbal and physical abuse
  • Always under stress
  • Traumatic events
  • Being intimidated at work or other place
  • Being the odd one out, at home, or at school
  • An absence of affection, praise or affection or interest
The Bottom Line

As we grow up we take the voices of who were significant to us with us. We may criticize ourselves in there sharp tones, and make the same comparisons with other people that did.

Because the Bottom Line is usually formed in childhood, it is usually biased and inaccurate, because it is based on a child's-eye view.

Bias Thinking:

Once you get to the Bottom Line is in place, it becomes increasingly difficult to question it. That it is because it is maintained and strengthened by biased thinking, which means you give weight to anything that is consistent with your beliefs, and discount anything that is not.

Two thinking biases contribute to low self-esteem: biased perception and biased interpretation. Biased perception means that you are swift to spot anything that fits your negative ideas about yourself, and you screen out anything that contradicts them. So you focus on what you do wrong, and ignore what you do right.  Biased interpretation means that you distort the meanings you attach to what you experience - even if the experience is positive (so if someone compliments you on your appearance, you might think that they meant that you have been looking unattractive before, or that they didn't mean what they said and were just trying to be nice).

You anticipate that things will turn out badly, and this makes you sensitive to any sign that they are turning out the way you expected.

How is low self-esteemed manifested?

At the heart of your self-esteem are your core beliefs about the kind of person you are. If you have low self-esteem these beliefs will be mainly negative. and negative beliefs are expressed in many ways. In your thoughts about yourself you're likely to be self-critical, self-blaming, and self-doubting: you may avoid challenges and opportunities, be continually apologetic or find it difficult to be assertive.

  • Such beliefs can influence many aspects of your life:At work, you may consistently under perform - or, conversely, be righteous in your perfectionism, driven by fear of failure.
  • In your personal relationships you may suffer from terrible self-consciousness, over sensitivity, to criticism or disapproval, or excessive eagerness to please.
  • Some try to be always in control or always put others first
  • In leisure time you might avoid any activity where there is a risk in being judged, or perhaps simply feel that they don't deserve to relax.
  • You might take proper care of yourself.
Sometimes low self-esteem is an aspect of current problems, such as depression. Clinically depressed people almost always see themselves in a negative light. If it started on the onset of depression then you need to start by treating the depression and this can restore your confidence in yourself. Low self-esteem are also caused by something else that is causing you stress: relationship problems, chronic illness, past bad experiences, self image and listening to vicious comments that others speak about you or little comments here and there that stay with us. Low self-esteem is making you vulnerable to other problems. In this case, tackling the root of the problem. This includes depression, suicidal thoughts, eating or anxiety disorder and others.
LOVE YOURSELF

Whenever you are questioning your worth you need to challenge your thinking with what Scripture says about you and who you are in Christ. Low self-esteem is based on what you believe about yourself. You may have received negative messages from your parents, from your friends or spouse - which caused you feel worthless. No matter what the cause for your low self-esteem - God does not make junk! God places great value on you. He sent His Son to die for your sins because of Hi desire to know you and make you part of His heaven-bound family!

  • When I fail at something, I feel lousy about myself
  • When others don't approve of me, I can't seem to get over it
  • Sometimes it feels like I'll never measure up
  • I'm so hopeless
These beliefs are contrary to Scripture and will prevent your self-worth from growing. Jesus Christ proclaims the following facts about who you are as His child, as His servant and as His friend. When you become a Christian - someone who trusted fully in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and repented from sin - you have a brand new identity in Christ! Do you believe what Jesus says about you or the false beliefs underneath low self-esteem.

  • For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14
  • I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
  • Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God John 1:12
  • And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be with you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. John 14:13-21
  • All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name Acts 10:423
  • In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace - Ephesians 1:7
What are the truths about your identity from these verses?

  • That you are a Child of God in the universe because you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior
  • That Christ lives you and you live in Christ
  • That when you allow Jesus to have control of your life, you will produce valuable works which glorify God
  • That Jesus will hear your prayers and answer them
  • That the Father and the Son love you
  • That you have forgiveness and eternal life because of your relationship with and faith in Christ

Bipolar Disorder - My experience

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces evil in the heavenly realms."
Ephesians 6:12

On Tuesday, June 24, 2014 I was watching the TV series Rizzoli and Isles as they were saying goodbye to Lee Thompson who took his life in August 2013 at age 29. It was a very sad show. As I watched the showed I could feel the pain and my spirit was moved. I have with this in my spirit for two days and praying this morning I couldn't take it no more and I just cried. I didn't cry for him, I cried for all those who have fallen in that same situation of hopelessness and depression and feel that the only way out is to end their life. I cry for all the hurting family and friends that are left behind with a pain that seems to never go away with so many unanswered questions as to why it happened. Lee Thompson Young had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and was being treated.

What is Bipolar Disorder? Basically it is a brain disorder (considered a mental illness) that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity level, and ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. Symptoms are severe, they are not your normal ups and downs. You get depressive episodes that last about two weeks. With that you see depression, hopelessness and sadness. Then there's mania. You can be euphoric or grandiose with high self-esteem. There are medications to help with this disorder. Unfortunately, some of these medications can also increase the risk of suicide.

What best way to understand something or someone than if you yourself have experienced it or have gone or are going through it. Well, I have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and am currently on medication for it. When I was first diagnosed it was very difficult to accept. I have been taking medication and it hasn't been always easy. I know it has been very hard on my parents and family as they seen me going through this in my worst moments. However, I have been doing much better. I also have noticed that when I do get the mood swings I pray to God and ask Him to take control of my mind and my mood swings and help me to get out of that cycle right away. Once I was diagnosed my sister took me to the bookstore and we went through a lot of books regarding Bipolar Disorder and I picked out three of the ones I thought were the best. I decided to read and study these books to know what I was up against. The information I received and in the workbook talked about triggers. It talks about trying to figure out your triggers. I have found out some of them, but not all of them. I thank God because He has been with me through the darkest hours and in the moments where I felt hopeless and in despair and not wanting to live.

Now besides mental illness, Bipolar Disorder and any other medical conditions, the Word of God tells us that there is a battle; an unseen battle by human eye. There is a battle raging in the spirit world. There is a spiritual battle going on in our minds. As a Christian it doesn't make you exempt to the battle raging in the spirit world, but God does give you the weapons in which to use to fight those battles. We all have an enemy within us, in Romans 8:7 says that "The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so." Our flesh, our carnal minds is our enemy. In 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God..." Satan is not omnipresent (he can't be everywhere) so he has an army of demons that help him. Why does the battle begin in our mind? Because the thoughts begin there. Your thoughts are affected by good and by evil and by right and wrong. "Arguments and taking every thought captive" having pressures in your mind is not abnormal. It is part of a Christian life. It's not a sign that you are doing anything wrong or on the wrong path, it's part of your total Christian experience.

Many people battle every day with thoughts that come into their minds that are negative or evil. Many of these thoughts have been injected in their or our minds by the devil and the evil spirits. They do this to disturb our peace, to bring confusion, to torment, to destroy and use us to destroy others. We live in a sinful world full of evil and we really need God to be able to fight the battle in our mind. There are many different thoughts I can go into right now and speak about, but I only want to speak about the ones that God has put in my heart to speak about.

Thoughts of hopelessness, despair, depression, worthlessness, low self-esteem...then you isolate yourself and you feel lonely and that no one is there for you, cares or loves you.

Hopelessness - beyond optimism
Despair - to lose hope, to give up
Depression - a sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason
Worthlessness - of no use or importance
Low self-esteem - beliefs you have about yourself as statements of fact when actually they are just opinions (I will be dedicating a post just for this one because it's important)

See the devil wants us to feel hopeless. He wants us to give up, to feel of no use and make you so sad to the point of believing you are not important so it's okay if I disappear. "No one will miss me" "They won't even know I'm missing" "They'll get over it, I'm a burden to them right now" "I've never done anything to make them proud of me" "No one loves me" "No one cares what happens to me" "They're always making fun of me" "They push me around all the time" "They are always hitting me" "They tell me I will never be anybody" "They tell me I'm dumb" "They never say I love you" - these are just some of the thoughts the devil puts in your mind. These thoughts then start playing over and over again in your mind and then they start taking form. You start developing feeling of inferiority. You get depressed. You feel like you're drowning. Your mind is invaded with these thoughts and you can't get them out of your head. Day in and day out this is all you think. You walk around trying not to let anyone know what is going on in your mind. You work really hard at not letting any signs of what's going on show. You don't want to tell anyone anything because you don't want them to think you're dumb or crazy - because this is what you think. If you're a Christian and/or a child of a Christian family you think I can't say anything because as a Christian I shouldn't be feeling this way and if I am, I must be doing something wrong. These are very powerful thoughts and create strongholds. A stronghold is an area of predominance (to take over). In other words, these thoughts take over. The longer they linger the more powerful they become until they are debilitating.

This is the way the enemy has a claim on your mind keeping it bound with lies and confusion. If you are ready to fight this battle and claim back your mind you will have to fight the lies and confusion. First thing you must do, might sound crazy, say out loud that you will not allow any outside force do your thinking! Do not let any spirit or any other person do the thinking for you. There are spiritual laws that the demons must obey. They cannot stay when you tell them to go. There is power in the name of Jesus, in His blood and the Word of God. We have to ask God for discernment to the lies of the devil.

Think about what you're thinking about. What are you pondering on? If you catch yourself thinking about something that you can identify it being injected from the devil, stop the thought at once by speaking to yourself out loud. I am speaking through experience, I do this. If I catch myself thinking something negative or something that is going to make me feel depressed, I immediately speak out loud to myself "stop it right now! Devil you are a liar! The Lord is with me so leave me alone right now! Devil I command you right now to leave in the name of Jesus!" Yes, I do say that! You must do this over and over again every time the lies of the devil enter your mind and you will regain peace, you will be able to sleep and concentrate better. You are in a battle but you are not alone, all of God's people fight the same fight - Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." You have to make up your mind! Colossians 3:2 "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." We have to set our minds and keep them set. As you begin fighting or you begin to battle it may seem worse before it gets better. The reason for this is that the demonic powers are fighting to keep their place in your mind/thinking. Regaining your mind is a process. We all fail at one time or another, but God knows our weaknesses and in 1 John 1:9 says that "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Continue to claim what belongs to you (your mind and thinking belong to you) in Jesus name.

The Word of God says that "Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." When I am battling a thought, for example worthlessness, I then would stop this thought I would declare as follows: I bind and rebuke right now the spirit of worthlessness in the name of Jesus and loosen upon my life love. Every time I bind any spirit I always loosen a blessing upon my life. I am using the Word of God which is the weapon to fight against the devil. You might say I don't know how to pray or don't know much about the Bible you still can overcome the thoughts that invade your mind and do battle. God's Yellow Pages This link takes you to a pdf that has a list of "where to look when..." Understand that it is by God's name, power and authority that the devil flees. I nor you have power of our own to do this, we must rely on God.

I pray that the Lord will minister to your life through this post.

",,,by His stripes we are healed..." This is also healing of your broken heart.

God bless!

Encourage Someone Today

How to encourage others

When we encourage others that goes straight to their heart. The Word of God tells us to encourage each other. Hebrews 3:13(a) "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today,"... (NIV)

The word encouragement comes from the prefix "en" which means "to put into" and the Latin word "cor" which means heart. Knowing how encouragement makes a difference in your life, what can you do to help others "to take heart" when they are going through a very tough time?

  1. I sometimes think about what encourages me and try to share that with others
  2. In the book The Five Languages of Love by Gary Chapman explains that not everyone's emotional needs are met the same way. The five love languages are: words of affirmation, spending quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service and physical touch
  3. I sometimes have an encouraging thought come to mind, so I share it! Sometimes I doubt if I should share it, but if I do and then say it later it won't have the same effect. Don't let shyness stop you. Form a new habit.
  4. It encourages me when I'm introduced to someone else and they add a few words of my abilities and accomplishments and how I've helped them and how I've made an impact in their lives. These are encouraging words.
  5. When someone is discouraged or hurting, offer them some specific help. If you don't know what to do or say you never go wrong with praying for that person. I like to write little notes and give to the person with an encouraging bible verse and a prayer and encouraging words. Sometimes we ask how can I help you and they might not dare to tell you or don't know what to say. Instead, you can say I can help you...(specific action).
  6. We need to remind other Christians of the promises of God and His characteristics. We might know something in our mind, but we need to be reminded of it in our hearts. 2 Peter 1:12 "So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have."
  7. I like to write so I write notes to people letting them know I am praying for them. Sometimes if God has put something in my heart to tell that person or pray something specific I will let that person know. I do this so that the person knows that God hears them and that they are not alone.
  8. When someone accomplishes something or has a victory celebrate by going out for coffee, lunch, a phone call...something.
  9. When offering words of praise be specific. Being specific makes your encouragement more believable. When my godson does something good I tell him "great job!" I had a friend that would always tell me "I appreciate you." We need to do this because this encourages and uplifts them.
  10. Remind others about Christ's coming. This takes off our minds of what we are going through and gets us thinking about the eternal perspective. In 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 "After that, we who are still alive and left will be caught together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words."
  11. Sometimes just having someone with you encourages you and gives you comfort and strength. For instance, when I was in a car accident my friend just happened to call me and I told her what just had happened and she came right away to where I was. She was of great help because first of all I was by myself and sometimes your disoriented and she was of great help.
  12. Hebrews 10:25 says "Not giving up meeting together, as some have the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the day approaching." We encourage others when we attend church services, bible studies and other events. I know that when I do an event I am encouraged when others come. Don't you?
  13. Make it a habit to be someone who encourages others. Write a letter to a co-worker, child's teacher, etc. because we interact with these people but for their services. We should take the time just to say thank you!
  14. Sometimes when I go to a restaurant or I speak to technical support on the phone I ask to speak to their supervisor about the great service I received from that person. I also let the person know how much I appreciate their service. This encourages them to continue to do a great job.
  15. When you see someone make a positive change in their life, let them know you noticed. Say something positive. For instance, I see that you really have a great attitude despite everything you are going through.
  16. Always ask the Holy Spirit to give you the words or actions that you need to encourage someone today. It is impossible to serve God in your own strength, it's also impossible to freely give encouragement to someone without the help of the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 43:1-2, 5(a)   "But now - this is what the Lord says: He who created you, Jacob, He who formed you, Israel: Do not fear for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Do not be afraid for I am with you;..."

Be encouraged and encourage someone today!

Hay dos huellas en la arena
There are two sets of prints in the sand
Jose Ocampo

Translation of song:

One night in my sleep I saw that I was walking with Jesus
along the shore under a silver moon.
I dreamed that I saw in the skies
my life in a series of  scenes that in silence I contemplated
Two pairs of footprints were staying in the sand as I was walking with Jesus
as friends conversing. I was looking intently on these footprints
reflected in the sky but slightly strange I observed and I felt great grief.
I observed that sometimes on having repaired the footprints
instead of seeing two pairs, I saw only a pair of footprints.
And it was I who was observing also that one only pair of footprints
was in the sand mainly in my nights without stars.
In the hours of my life flooded with anxiety and sadness
when the soul needs more console and fortitude.
I asked Jesus sadly: Didn't you promise that in my
hours of affliction you would always walk with me ...?
But I notice that on my sadness times in the middle of my suffering
I see only a pair of footprints.
Where are the other two footprints that indicate You are with me
when the thunderstorm is beating me cruelly in my life?
And, Jesus answered me: with tenderness and comprehension;
' Listen good, my son, I understand your confusion.
I always loved you and I will love you,
and in your times of pain I will be by your side always
to show you my love.
But if you only see a pair of footprint in the sand as we walk
and you do not see others two, that must be evident,
it is that in the hour of affliction, when your steps are weaken ,
there are no traces of your footprints because I am carrying you in My arms '.

Bible Emergency Numbers

We all at one time or another we need some help and don't know
where to turn. Sometimes we don't know where to look in the
Bible for what we are going through.

Here are some Bible Emergency Numbers

Be encouraged today! Remember that you and I never would have made it
if it wasn't for Jesus!

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Never Would Have Made It!

Prayer for encouragement for you today:

Give me a fresh wind of release to lighten my load.
Teach me your way and your will.
Speak to me Lord in a way that I would understand and obey.
Send the right people in my life to be a source of love, guidance and new opportunities.
Thank you Lord for your mercy and grace.
Thank you for favor.
I am ready for peacefulness and solutions to adjust to the changes in my life.
I thank you now in advance because I believe you are an awesome and mighty God.
Instead of whining, crying, feeling weak, and worried, I will worship my way back to wholeness.
Instead of a breakdown, I'm grateful for my breakthrough.
I'm ready for my healing and deliverance.
Thank you Lord for working it out.
I exhale now trusting you Lord as I walk away from temptation, depression and the stronghold of the enemy.
Your divine law operates within me as I speak, think and act with faith, love and courage.
I stand on your promises as you cover me with your protection and provision.  My trust in you Lord allows me to breathe out the stress, worry and shame.
Holy Spirit, I am encouraged now and will press toward the goal keeping my eyes on you. I pray in Jesus name, amen!

The Healing of Mind and Soul - Psalm 23

Ps. 23:1 "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want"

This Psalm does not begin with a request or asking God for something, but rather it is a calm statement - The Lord is my Shepherd. We do not have to beg God for things. Instinctively the sheep know that the shepherd will make provision for them today, and also tomorrow so it lies down in its fold with no worries. We also have to know that God made provision for our needs long before we even had the need. Before He put man on earth He knew we would be hungry, so God put fertility into the soil and life into the seed. In Matthew 6:8b "...for your Father knows what you have need of, before you ask." In Matthew 6:25, 34 Jesus asks us to think if God will do as much for a simple bird or a flower in the field, how much more will he do for us. "My God shall supply all your needs." Philippians 4:19 and "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want" Psalms 23:1. With that faith we can work today without worrying about tomorrow.

Ps. 23:2a "He makes me lie down in green pastures"

The shepherd starts the sheep grazing about 4 a.m. The sheep walk steadily as they graze; they are never still. By 10 a.m., the sun is beaming down and the sheep are hot, tired and thirsty. The wise shepherd knows that the sheep must not drink when it is hot, neither when its stomach is filled with undigested grass. So the shepherd makes the sheep lie down in green pastures, in a cool soft spot. The sheep will not eat lying down, so he chews his cud, which is nature's way of digestion.
When we study the lives of great people and you will find that every one of them drew apart from the hurry of life for rest and reflection. "Be still and know that I am God." Psalms 46:10 Elijah found God, not in an earthquake or the fire, but in "a still small voice." Moses saw the burning bush as he was out on the hillside. Saul of Tarsus was on a lonely, quiet road to Damascus when he saw the heavenly vision. Jesus took time to be alone and pray. Sometimes God puts us on our back in order to give us the chance to look up. "He makes me lie down." Many times we are forced, not be God, but by circumstances of one sort or another to lie down. That can always be a blessed experience.

Ps. 23:2b "He leads me beside the still waters,"

The sheep is a very timid creature. It is especially afraid of fast moving water, which it has good reason to fear. The sheep is a very poor swimmer because of its heavy coat of wool. The water soaks into the sheep's coat and pulls it down. The sheep will not drink from a moving stream. The sheep will only drink from still waters. The shepherd does not laugh at the sheep's fears nor does he try to force them, instead he is constantly on the lookout for still waters. If there are no still waters while the sheep rest he will gather up stones and make a dam across a small stream to form a pool from which the sheep will be able to drink from; even the tiniest one without fear.
God knows our limitations and He does not condemn us because we have weaknesses. He does not force us where we cannot safely and happily go. God never demands of us work which is beyond our strengths and abilities.
One of the best ways to relieve stress and tension from your life is to picture still water in your mind; a calm sea with gentle, rippling waves. This really does work, I have actually gone to the beach since I live in Florida and just sit there, close my eyes and just listen to the gentle, rippling waves. It literally feels like with every wave that goes back out it's taking away with it every tension and stress. Now picture that and as that becomes a clear image say these words "He leads me besides still waters."

Ps. 23:3a "...he restores my soul."

David remembered that as the sheep start out in the morning to graze, each takes a definite place in line and hold that position all day. However, sometime during the day each sheep leaves its position and trots over to the shepherd. The shepherd gently rubs the nose and ears, lightly scratches the ears, and whispers in an ear of the sheep. Reassured and encouraged, the sheep takes its place in line again. (Isn't this so amazing?!) David lost his nearness to God. He did wrong. He became unhappy. His burden of guilt too heavy to bear. Then he repented. God hears, forgave, and restores. He became a new man.
"He restores my soul" = He revives my life. Like squeezing juice from an orange and leaving just the pulp, life has a way of squeezing the spirit out of a person. A person can become "only a shell."
The Bible tells that God made the first man "and He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 And God has the power and the willingness to breathe a new breath of life into one who has lost.

Ps. 23:3b "He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake."

We come to the forks of life's road and cannot decide which way to turn. There are decisions to be made and yet it is so hard to decide. We do get lost. We need guidance, and confidently David in Psalm 23 declares,  "He leads me in the paths of righteousness" (in the right paths).
Sheep have no sense of direction. A dog, cat or horse if lost can find its way back. They seem to have a compass within themselves. Not a sheep. A sheep also has very poor eyes. It cannot see ten or fifteen yards ahead. Palestinian fields were covered with narrow paths over which the shepherds led their sheep to pasture. Some of these paths let to a precipice over which the sheep might fall to its death. (The sheep are not the smartest)
Some paths lead up a blind alley. But some lead to green pastures and still waters. The sheep followed the shepherd, knowing it was walking in the right path.
Perhaps David remembered his forefathers as they made their way across the trackless wilderness from Egypt to the Promised Land. God sent a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day. Following it, the Israelites did come to the land they longed for. Though God does not put a bed of roses on the battlefield or a carpet on the race track; though He does not promise us an easy, effortless life, He does promise us strength and He does promise to go with us. God doesn't drive. He is climbing the same hill we climb - man is not alone.
As we take life one step at a time, we can walk with Him the right paths. "In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:6 The person who sincerely seeks God's will, whatever His will may be, will know the leadership of Eternal Wisdom. He will lead you to the promise land.

Ps. 23:4a "Though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me."
Valley of Shadow of Death

The valley of shadow of death refers to more than the actual experiences of physical death. It might refer to every hard and terrifying experience of life. In Palestine, there is an actual Valley of the Shadow of Death. It leads from Jerusalem to the Dead Sea and is a very narrow and dangerous pathway through the mountain range. The path is rough, and there is danger that a sheep at any moment to its death. It is a forbidding journey that one dreads to take. But the sheep is not afraid. Why, because the shepherd is with it.
So when those dark places in life we are compelled to pass. Death, disappointment, loneliness, and many more....Just stop. Be still and quiet, and in the midst of all that you will feel a strange and marvelous presence more powerfully than you have ever felt before. "I will not be afraid." Why, because "for you are with me." There is a power in His presence.

Ps. 23:4b "Your rod and your staff comfort me"

The sheep is a helpless animal. It has no weapon with which to fight. It is easy prey to any wild beast of the field. It is afraid. But the shepherd carries a rod, which is a heavy, hard club two to three feet long. The shepherd also carries a staff, which was about eight feet long. The end of the staff was turned into a hook. Many paths in Palestine were along the steep sides of mountains. The sheep would lose its footing and slip down, hanging helplessly on some ledge below. With his staff the shepherd would reach down, place the crook over the small chest of the sheep and lift it back onto the pathway. The sheep is instinctively comforted by the shepherd's rod and staff.
It is comfort of knowing that the shepherd will be able to meet an emergency. There are needs in my life that I cannot meet, and,  like St. Paul it comforts me to say "Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think."Ephesians 3:20

Ps. 23:5a "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies"

In the pastures of the Holy Land grew poisonous plants which were fatal to the sheep if eaten. Also, there were plants whose thorns would penetrate the soft noses and cause ugly sores.
Each spring the shepherd would take his mattock and dig out these enemies of the sheep, pile them up and burn them. Thus the pastures were safe for the sheep to graze. The pasture became, as it were, a table prepared. The present enemies were destroyed.

"You anoint my head with oil"
Ps. 23:5b "You anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over."

In life, we expect to live it you must also except some bruises and hurt. And David thinking of that said "you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over." Sometimes, as the sheeps grazed, its head would be cut by the sharp edge of a stone buried in the grass. There were briars to scratch and thorns to stick. Some days the sheep had to walk steep paths under a hot, merciless sun. At the end of the day it would be tired. So the shepherd would stand at the door of the fold and examine each sheep as it came in. If there were hurt places, the shepherd would apply soothing and healing oil. Instead of becoming infected, it would soon heal.
As young children we would get hurt and run to mom who would kiss the hurt away. As older children we still get hurt. A heart can be broken, feeling can be hurt, and the world can deal creully and harshly. One can become discouraged and tired.
Sometimes the burden of life can become unbearable. But also there is the tender Shepherd who understands the hurt of His children and is ever ready and able to minister to that hurt.

Ps. 23:6a "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life"

David is not wistfully thinking. He says surely, surely, surely. David was an old man when he wrote Psalm 23. He had seen tragedies and disappointments, but he had also come to know God - a God that know the needs of His children and abundantly provide for those needs, a God who can restore life and take away fear. We hear a lot of the wickedness of men and the destruction of the world. We know bombs can destroy city with one awful blast. We tremble. But, somehow, as our minds are filled with the picture of the Loving Shepherd leading sheep we feel confident that He will lead us through the dark valleys. Begin the morning with hope. Plant this firmly in your mind, "surely goodness and mercy shall follow me," and they will.

Ps. 23:6b "And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever"

David closes the Twenty Third Psalm with a mighty crescendo of the faith when he declares "I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
David did not have the insights that we have. He never heard the words: "I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die." John 11:25-26
Just knowing intimately a God like he describes in the Twenty-Third Psalm gave David assurance that at the close of life's day he would go home.

A little story:
"He knows the Shepherd"
There's a story, I don't know the source of it, of an old man and a young man on the same platform before an audience. A special program was being presented and as part of the program each one of them had been asked to say the Twenty-Third Psalm. The young man trained in his speech went up and eloquently said the Psalm. When he finished everyone was clapping and asking for an encore. Then the old man got up leaning on his cane and in a feeble, shaking voice said the Psalm. He sat down and everyone remained silent.  It seemed like the people were praying. The young man got back up and said the following: Friends, I wish to make an explanation. You asked me to come back and repeat the Psalm, but you remained silent when my friend seated. The difference? I shall tell you. I know the Psalm. He knows the Shepherd!!!

Maybe in the modern day the figure of shepherd and the sheep may mean little, but let me tell if there were people in this world that really resembled scared sheep that would be us. Government are afraid of each other. People are afraid of the government, of other people, and even of themselves.

This Psalm of David has sung its way across the barriers of time, race and language. For centuries it has been treasured in the hearts of people. Today it is more loved than before.
Why it lives? Not because it's great literature. Because it tells that above all the strife and fears, the hungers and weaknesses of mankind, there is a Shepherd. A Shepherd who knows His sheep one by one, who is abundantly able to provide, who guides and protects and at the close of the day opens the door to the sheepfold - the house not made with hands.
The Twenty-Third Psalm gives men that same assurance. That is why it lives in the hearts of men, regardless race or creed.
